What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named as an electrical fault, it concerns the fuel level in the tank. The ECM gets the level from the central electronic module (CEM) and switches the engine off when fuel is too low, so that fuel system parts are not damaged by running dry. The code is set when the level is too low after the ignition has been on for a while.
Possible causes
- Low fuel level
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact, and look in the owner's manual if you cannot find them
- 2Does the car have enough fuel? Top up and road test to see whether the fault goes away
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the codes in the CEM, since the level signal comes from there
- 4If you find no fault: have a workshop check the signal between the CEM and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine stalls while driving, either occasionally or all the time
- The engine does not start, either occasionally or all the time
- The engine stalls on start
