What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) works out how much air the engine should receive and compares that with what the mass airflow meter measures. The code is set when the predicted airflow exceeds the measured airflow, which can be caused by a leak, dirt in the throttle body or a blocked intake.
Possible causes
- Air leak in the intake system
- Dirty throttle body
- Blocked intake system
- Damaged mass airflow meter
What you can do
- 1Check the mass airflow meter connector for oxidation and loose connections
- 2Look for leaks in the intake system, especially in the hoses between the mass airflow meter and the throttle unit
- 3Look inside the throttle body for dirt. A dirty throttle body reduces the airflow to the engine, which can cause codes or symptoms
- 4Clean the throttle body carefully if needed
- 5If you find no fault: fit a new mass airflow meter, or have a workshop do it
Symptoms you may notice1
- Uneven idle
