What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) tries to adapt the throttle unit when it is needed, but stops if the basic conditions are not met, and the code is then set. This can happen if the engine is running, the accelerator pedal is not fully released, or the car is moving. Other stored fault codes can also prevent the adaptation and should be fixed first.
Possible causes
- Basic conditions for the adaptation were not met: the engine was running, the accelerator pedal was not released, or the car was not stationary
- The throttle is sticking or blocked, for example by oil film or dust
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections between the control module and the throttle unit
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Fix any other stored fault codes first, since they can prevent the adaptation
- 2The accelerator pedal must be fully released and the car stationary when the adaptation runs, so check this when you try
- 3Look for oil film, dust or any object that could make the throttle stick, and clean carefully if needed
- 4Check the throttle unit connector for oxidation and make sure it is firmly seated
- 5If you find no fault or the adaptation does not complete: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment carry it out
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect3
- The adaptation is cancelled
- With a new control module that has never adapted the throttle unit, the throttle motor supply is cut and the throttle returns to its spring position
- The control module may temporarily shut off the fuel supply
