What does this fault code mean?

The code relates to the throttle unit adaptation, which has been deactivated. When the adaptation was attempted, the basic conditions were not met, for example because the engine was running, the accelerator pedal was not released, or the car was moving. Other stored fault codes may also have prevented the adaptation.

    Possible causes

    • Basic conditions for the adaptation were not met: ignition on but engine running, the accelerator pedal not released, or the car moving
    • The throttle is sticking or blocked, for example by oil film or dust
    • Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections between the control module and the throttle unit
    • Damaged throttle unit

    What you can do

    1. 1Check whether other fault codes are stored, since they may have prevented the adaptation
    2. 2Check that the engine is off with the ignition on, the accelerator pedal is fully released and the car is stationary when the adaptation is run
    3. 3Check that the throttle is not blocked by dirt and not sticking, and clean if needed
    4. 4Look at the connectors on the throttle unit and control module for oxidation and contact resistance
    5. 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read in live data whether the throttle unit adaptation shows OK
    6. 6If you find no fault: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment carry out the adaptation

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Poor performance

    What the fault can affect3

    • The adaptation is cancelled
    • With a new control module that has never adapted the throttle unit, the throttle motor supply is cut and the throttle returns to its spring position
    • The control module may temporarily shut off the fuel supply

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
