What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the high pressure side of the fuel system. The code is set when the pressure reported by the sensor there is unreasonably low, which points to a fault on the high pressure side. The cause may be a leak, poor connections, a damaged sensor or a damaged fuel pump.
Possible causes
- Leak in the fuel system
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire or the signal ground wire
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged fuel pump
What you can do
- 1Look for leaks on the high pressure side of the fuel system, for example at connections and pipes, and fix any faults
- 2Check other fault codes in the control module that could affect the fuel system before replacing any part
- 3Note the conditions when the symptoms occur, for example at idle or when the car hesitates, and tell the workshop
- 4If you find no fault: have a workshop replace the high pressure fuel pressure sensor
- 5If the fault returns after repair: have a workshop check the high pressure fuel pump
Symptoms you may notice2
- Uneven idle
- Hesitation, surging or jerky running while driving, either occasionally or all the time
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
