What does this fault code mean?
This code is only set during the workshop quick test of lambda control, which is used to find air leaks or low fuel pressure, for example. The fuel-air mixture is then too lean compared with the expected value, with the fuel adaptations reset. This indicates a fault that could cause lambda control codes during normal driving.
Possible causes
- Air leak in the intake system
- High fuel pressure or leaking injectors
- Damaged mass airflow meter or oxygen sensor (HO2S)
- Contaminated engine oil or oil level too high
- Fuel in the engine oil, which reduces its quality, especially after repeated cold starts without warm-up
- Incorrectly calculated ethanol content
What you can do
- 1Look for air leaks in the intake system, for example at hoses and clamps
- 2Check the oil level on the dipstick and make sure it is not too high
- 3If the car has had many cold starts without warming up, fuel may have mixed into the engine oil, which is worth telling the workshop
- 4Have a workshop check the injectors, the oxygen sensor and the mass airflow meter
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
