What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) drives the EGR valve motor and monitors its current consumption all the time. The code is set when current consumption is too high, which may be caused by wiring shorted to supply voltage or a damaged EGR valve. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control is then lost.
Possible causes
- Wiring shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the EGR valve and see or feel whether it moves
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the EGR valve wiring has no contact with battery positive, and look for chafing
- 4If you find no fault: have a workshop check the EGR valve
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control is lost
