What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal to the injectors. The code is set when the signal to an injector is incorrect, because the signal wire is shorted to ground. The fault applies to the cylinder the code points to.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the signal wires
- The signal wire is shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read the code and note which cylinder the fourth digit refers to, so you check the right wire
- 2With the ignition on and the engine control module connector disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the wires to the relevant injector are not shorted to each other or to ground
- 3Inspect the signal wire for chafing and pinching, especially where it runs close to the body
- 4Check that the injector connectors are firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the injector and check that it operates
- 6If you find no fault in the wiring: have a workshop check the injectors
Symptoms you may notice4
- The engine does not start, either occasionally or all the time
- The engine stalls on start
- Poor performance and lack of power while driving
- A clicking sound, or no sound at all, when starting is attempted
What the fault can affect1
- Injection stops
