What does this fault code mean?
The code for cylinder 5 is set when the signal to the injector is faulty, because the signal wire is shorted to supply voltage. The wiring between the engine control module and the injector is therefore the first thing to check.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2With the engine control module connector disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to cylinder 5 has no contact with battery positive
- 3Look at the wire to cylinder 5 for chafing and pinching
- 4Check the injector for cylinder 5 for damage
- 5If you find no fault: have a workshop check the injector
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start, either occasionally or all the time
What the fault can affect1
- Injection stops
