Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–), XC90 (2003–)
Show models by year and engine (3)
What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when the actual throttle position differs from the throttle angle the engine control module (ECM) requests. It can also be set when the inlet control valve has jammed in the open position while the control module is operating it.
Possible causes
- The throttle is sticking or blocked, for example by dirt or ice
- Damaged electronic throttle unit
- The inlet control valve has jammed in the open position
- Damaged inlet control valve
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and road test to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the actual throttle position and the reference value in live data at idle, and see whether they follow each other as the engine speed changes
- 3Check that nothing is blocking the throttle and that the throttle disc moves freely when pressed gently
- 4Clean the throttle unit carefully if there is dirt
- 5If you find no fault: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and the inlet control valve
Symptoms you may notice3
- Poor performance
- Uneven idle
- Malfunction indicator (MIL) lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
