What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the throttle spring every time the engine is switched off. The throttle is moved to the open position, and the ECM measures how long it takes to return to its rest position. If it takes too long, the fault is set. The code gives no further fault type, only that the throttle does not move back within a reasonable time, which can be caused by binding or a damaged throttle unit.
Possible causes
- Dirt or ice can make the throttle stick or block
- Damaged electronic throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Check that the throttle is not dirty or covered in ice.
- 3With a diagnostic tool, compare pedal position and throttle opening in live data while pressing the pedal slowly and quickly.
- 4Clear the code and drive the car, with several engine switch-offs in between, to see whether it returns.
- 5If it returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and its control.
