What does this fault code mean?
Before an engine start is allowed, the immobilizer codes in the ECM and in the central electronic module (CEM) are compared. The code is set when the power supply to the ECM and CEM is lost before the immobilizer codes have been checked, or when the ECM detects an internal fault. The code shows that the vehicle is immobilized and that engine start is not allowed.
Possible causes
- Loose connections to the battery
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Poorly charged battery
- Damaged terminals at the engine control module (ECM)
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM) or the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the battery is sufficiently charged and that the battery terminals and earth connections are tight and clean.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 3Check that the connectors to the engine control module are secure and free from corrosion.
- 4Read and clear the code with a diagnostic tool, try starting the car again and check whether the fault is still present.
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop check the CEM and the brake control module (BCM) with diagnostic equipment.
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine does not start
- The starter spins but the engine does not fire
- The engine does not turn over and there is no clicking sound when starting is attempted
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- Active chassis does not work
What the fault can affect1
- Engine start is not allowed
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
