What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) drives the injectors through two integrated high-power output stages. This code applies to cylinder 1 and is set when the ECM detects a faulty signal to the injector in that cylinder while the engine is running. The code gives no further fault type and can be a knock-on fault from another injector or fuel system fault.

    Possible causes

    • Knock-on fault from a fault detected by another trouble code test for the injectors and/or fuel system
    • Damaged injector

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
    2. 2Read the stored codes. If there is a code for the injectors or the fuel system, deal with that first, because the cylinder 1 code may be a knock-on from it.
    3. 3If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the injector for cylinder 1 and listen for a click, then compare with the other cylinders.
    4. 4Check that the connector to the cylinder 1 injector is secure and free from corrosion.
    5. 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the cylinder 1 injector, as it may be damaged.

    Symptoms you may notice3

    • The Check engine (malfunction) lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
    • Text message and warning symbol in the display
    • Poor performance, the car lacks power

    What the fault can affect2

    • Engine output and speed may be limited
    • Soot particles are not burned off as normal

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
