What does this fault code mean?
Even though the code is named as a short between the high and low side, it applies to the current signal to the cylinder 1 injector, which is too low compared with the requested current. It can be caused by contact resistance or oxidation in the connections, or by a damaged engine control module.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections to the injector
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector to the cylinder 1 injector is secure and that the contact faces are free from oxide and corrosion.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 3Have a workshop measure the internal resistance of the injector with diagnostic equipment, so that a damaged injector can be ruled out.
- 4If the injector and connectors are in order, the engine control module (ECM) may be the fault. A workshop then replaces it.
- 5After the work: clear the code and check that it does not return with the engine running.
Symptoms you may notice3
- The Check engine (malfunction) lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- The engine does not start
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
