What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named as a high to low side short, it applies to the current signal to the cylinder 3 injector, which is too low compared with the request. The engine control module detects the fault while the engine is running. The cause can be contact resistance or oxidation in the connections, or a damaged engine control module.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Look at the connector to the cylinder 3 injector: it should be secure and free from oxide and corrosion.
- 3Have a workshop measure the internal resistance of the injector so that a damaged injector can be ruled out.
- 4If the injector and its connectors are fine, the engine control module may be at fault, and a workshop would then replace it.
- 5When the work is done, read the code again with the engine running to confirm it has cleared.
Symptoms you may notice3
- The Check engine (malfunction) lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- The engine does not start
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
