What does this fault code mean?
Even though the code is named as a short between the high and low side, it applies to the current signal to the cylinder 4 injector, which is too low compared with what is requested. The engine control module detects the fault while the engine is running. The cause can be contact resistance or oxidation in the connections, or a damaged engine control module.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections to the injector
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector to the cylinder 4 injector is secure and free from oxide and corrosion.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 3Have a workshop measure the internal resistance of the injector with diagnostic equipment, to rule out a damaged injector.
- 4If the injector and connectors are in order, the engine control module is what may be at fault, and a workshop replaces it.
- 5When the work is finished, read the code again with the engine running so you can see that it has gone.
Symptoms you may notice3
- The Check engine (malfunction) lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- The engine does not start
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
