What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the fuel pressure on the high-pressure side with the largest permitted deviation above the correct pressure, which depends on engine load and speed. The code is set when the deviation becomes too large. A low fuel level in the tank is one of the causes. The check is only made with the engine running.
Possible causes
- Low fuel level in the tank
- The fuel flow control valve is damaged
- The fuel pressure control valve is damaged
- Air in the fuel system
- Too high back pressure on the return side of the fuel system
What you can do
- 1Check the fuel level in the tank and top up if it is low.
- 2Search the fuel system for leaks, for example wet spots or a smell of fuel under the car.
- 3If there are fault codes for the fuel pump, deal with them before going further.
- 4With a diagnostic tool, follow fuel pressure in live data at idle and at light throttle; the measured value should track the requested one.
- 5Have a workshop check the pressure sensor connector and wiring, the injector valves and the fuel filter, as this needs measurements.
Symptoms you may notice1
- Unusual noise while driving
