What does this fault code mean?
This code applies to the injector for cylinder 1. The engine control module checks the injector circuit on the supply side and sets the code when the signal in the circuit is too low. This can be caused by the signal wire being shorted to earth or by a damaged injector. The check is made with the ignition on and the engine running.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is short-circuited to earth
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Look at the connector to the cylinder 1 injector and at the wire leading to it. The connector should be secure, and the wire should be undamaged by chafing or pinching.
- 3With a diagnostic tool you can activate the cylinder 1 injector. Listen for a click and compare with the other cylinders.
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the cylinder 1 injector has no contact with earth (the body). Make the measurement with the ignition off.
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the injector and the wiring for cylinder 1.
Symptoms you may notice4
- The Check engine (malfunction) lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- Poor performance, the car lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly, at unclear times
- Unusual noise while driving
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
