What does this fault code mean?
This fault concerns the signal to the cylinder 3 injector, which is too low when the engine control module checks the circuit on the supply side. The engine needs to be running for the fault to be detected. The cause can be a signal wire shorted to earth, or a damaged injector.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is short-circuited to earth
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Go through the connector to the cylinder 3 injector so that it is secure, clean and free from corrosion.
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the cylinder 3 injector is not shorted to earth (the body). Make the measurement with the ignition off.
- 4With a diagnostic tool you can activate the cylinder 3 injector. Listen for a click and compare with the other cylinders.
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the cylinder 3 injector and its wire.
Symptoms you may notice4
- The Check engine (malfunction) lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- Poor performance, the car lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly, at unclear times
- Unusual noise while driving
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
