What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. The engine control module checks the learned limits of the EGR valve for closed and open positions and sets the code when the limit for the closed valve is outside what is permitted. The code can also be stored during a software update.
Possible causes
- The code can be stored during a software update and should then be deleted without further troubleshooting
- The EGR valve sticks, for example due to dirt or soot
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1If the code was set during a software update, delete it without further fault-finding or action.
- 2Read the DTC counter: if the code was set once and later drive cycles show no fault, the software update is most likely the cause.
- 3Check that the EGR valve is not sticking from dirt or soot. If you have a diagnostic tool, you can activate the valve and see that it moves.
- 4If none of this helps, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the EGR valve. If it is damaged, it needs replacing.
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
