What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the setting or adjustment of the EGR valve in the exhaust gas recirculation system. The engine control module compares the learned limits of the valve for closed and open positions and sets the code when the limit for the closed valve is outside what is permitted. It can also come up with a software update, in which case deleting it is enough.
Possible causes
- The code can be stored during a software update and should then be deleted without further troubleshooting
- The EGR valve sticks, for example due to dirt or soot
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1If the code came up with a software update, deleting it is enough.
- 2Use the DTC counter to see whether the code has been set only once, and whether no new faults have been found over several drive cycles after that.
- 3Look for dirt or soot around the EGR valve, as a valve that sticks can cause the fault.
- 4Have a workshop check or adjust the EGR valve setting with diagnostic equipment. If the valve is damaged it needs replacing.
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
