What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the fuel pressure on the high-pressure side with the largest permitted deviation below the correct pressure. The pressure depends on engine load and speed, and the check is only made with the engine running. The code is set when the pressure is too low. The cause can be fuel starvation on the low-pressure side, a leak, a blocked fuel filter, air, or damaged control valves.
Possible causes
- Waxing of diesel at low fuel temperatures
- Internal or external fuel leak on the high-pressure side
- Poor fuel supply on the low-pressure side
- Blocked fuel filter
- Damaged fuel flow control valve or fuel pressure control valve
- Air in the fuel system
What you can do
- 1Check the fuel level in the tank and top up if it is low.
- 2If there are fault codes for the fuel pump, deal with them first.
- 3Look for leaks in the fuel system. A blocked fuel filter can cause the same fault, so have a workshop check it.
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, compare the measured fuel pressure with the requested one in live data at idle.
- 5Have a workshop check the control valves, the tightness of the injector valves and the connectors and wiring of the fuel pressure sensor, as this needs measurements.
Symptoms you may notice4
- The engine does not start, but the starter motor turns
- Poor performance, the car lacks power, especially when pulling away from a standstill
- Uneven idle
- The engine stalls, both at idle and while driving
