What does this fault code mean?

This code concerns a fuel pressure that is too low on the high-pressure side. The engine control module (ECM) compares the pressure with the largest permitted deviation below the correct value, and the check is made with the engine running. A low fuel level in the tank is one of the causes, but leaks, air, a blocked filter and damaged control valves can also cause the fault.

    Possible causes

    • Low fuel level in the tank
    • Waxing of diesel at low fuel temperatures
    • Internal or external fuel leak on the high-pressure side, or poor fuel supply on the low-pressure side
    • Blocked fuel filter
    • Damaged fuel flow control valve or fuel pressure control valve
    • Air in the fuel system

    What you can do

    1. 1Start with the simplest check: look at the fuel level in the tank and top up if it is low.
    2. 2Deal with any fault codes for the fuel pump first.
    3. 3Search the fuel system for leaks, and have a workshop check whether the fuel filter is blocked.
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool, compare the measured and requested fuel pressure in live data at idle. The difference should be small.
    5. 5Have a workshop check the injector valves, the fuel flow control valve and the connectors and wiring of the fuel pressure sensor.

    Symptoms you may notice4

    • The engine does not start, but the starter motor turns
    • Poor performance, the car lacks power, especially when pulling away from a standstill
    • Uneven idle
    • The engine stalls, both at idle and while driving

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
