What does this fault code mean?

The code concerns the EGR valve position sensor. The engine control module checks the function of the valve and sets the code when the signal from the position sensor is incorrect or unreasonable. The causes can be a valve stuck in the open position, a valve sticking from dirt or soot, or a damaged sensor or valve.

    Possible causes

    • The EGR valve has jammed in the open position
    • The EGR valve sticks, for example due to dirt or soot
    • Damaged position sensor
    • Damaged EGR valve

    What you can do

    1. 1Look for dirt or soot around the EGR valve, as a valve that sticks can cause the fault.
    2. 2If you have a diagnostic tool, compare the EGR valve position value in live data with the valve's movement with the engine running.
    3. 3Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the position sensor. If it is damaged it needs replacing.
    4. 4If the sensor is in order, have a workshop check the EGR valve.
    5. 5After the work, clear the code and check that it does not return.
