What does this fault code mean?
This code concerns the EGR valve position sensor. The engine control module sets it when the signal from the sensor is incorrect or unreasonable, which can be caused by a valve stuck in the open position, a valve that sticks, a contact problem, or a damaged sensor or valve. No EGR control takes place then.
Possible causes
- The EGR valve has jammed in the open position
- The EGR valve sticks, for example due to dirt or soot
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged position sensor
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Go through the connector to the position sensor and the EGR valve. They should be secure and clean.
- 3Have a workshop read the code and check the position sensor with diagnostic equipment.
- 4Have a workshop check that the EGR valve moves freely and is undamaged.
- 5After the work, read the code again with the engine running to see that it has gone.
Symptoms you may notice1
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
What the fault can affect1
