What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the position of the exhaust camshaft relative to the crankshaft. The engine control module (ECM) compares the camshaft position with the crankshaft position and sets the code when the camshaft is incorrectly adjusted after a timing belt change. The fault shows up at start attempts.
Possible causes
- Incorrectly adjusted camshaft after timing belt replacement
- Incorrectly installed camshaft
- Damaged camshaft
What you can do
- 1Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment carry out a camshaft adaption. It should be done as the first action for camshaft-related faults.
- 2Read the code after the adaption. If it is still there, the adaption has not cured the fault and more causes must be checked.
- 3If the timing belt was recently replaced, tell the workshop, as the camshaft setting is the first thing to check.
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check that the exhaust camshaft is correctly fitted and undamaged.
Symptoms you may notice2
- The Check engine (malfunction) lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- The engine does not start, and when the fault shows is unclear
