What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the position of the intake camshaft relative to the crankshaft. The engine control module (ECM) compares the camshaft position with the crankshaft position and sets the code when the camshaft is incorrectly adjusted after a timing belt change. The fault is noticed at start attempts, when the engine is to be started.
Possible causes
- Incorrectly adjusted camshaft after timing belt replacement
- Incorrectly installed camshaft
- Damaged camshaft
What you can do
- 1Remember that a camshaft adaption is a workshop task, and it should be done first when camshaft faults are stored.
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, read the code before and after the workshop work, so you can see whether the fault has gone.
- 3If the timing belt was recently replaced, tell the workshop, since a camshaft set wrongly after a belt change can cause the fault.
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check that the intake camshaft is correctly fitted and undamaged.
Symptoms you may notice2
- The Check engine (malfunction) lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- The engine does not start, and when the fault shows is unclear
