What does this fault code mean?
The ECM operates the glow plugs through the glow plug relay and sets the code when the signal to the relay is incorrect. The cause can be poor contact, oxidation or an open circuit in the connections, or a damaged glow plug relay. The glow plug relay is then not activated.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
- Damaged glow plug relay
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Go through the connectors in the glow plug system. They should be secure and free from oxide.
- 3Check that the glow plug relay sits firmly in its holder and is not damaged.
- 4Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the signal to the glow plug relay, as this needs measurements.
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly, especially on a cold start
What the fault can affect1
- Glow plug relay not activated
