What does this fault code mean?
The ECM operates the glow plugs through the glow plug relay and sets the code when the relay does not receive battery supply (30-supply). The causes can be a blown fuse, poor contact or oxidation at the connectors, an open circuit in the signal wire, a damaged relay, a short to supply voltage in the glow plug wiring, or a short circuit in a glow plug. The fault can also come from a fault in the glow plug circuit.
Possible causes
- Blown fuse
- Poor contact or oxidation at the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged glow plug relay
- Short to supply voltage in the glow plug wiring
- Short circuit in a glow plug
What you can do
- 1If the fuse for the glow plugs is blown, replace it with one of the same rating and check that it sits firmly.
- 2Check the connectors in the glow plug system. They should be secure and free from oxide.
- 3Look for broken or chafed wires, especially the signal wire to the glow plug relay and the wires to the glow plugs.
- 4Check that the glow plug relay sits firmly in its holder.
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the glow plug relay and the glow plugs, as short circuits in the glow plugs need measurements.
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine is hard to start and cranks slowly, especially on a cold start
