What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the charge air cooler bypass valve and sets the code when the valve is too far from its calculated position, either when opening or closing. The cause can be poor contact in the wiring, an open or short circuit to earth or supply voltage in the wiring, a sticking bypass valve, or a damaged bypass valve.
Possible causes
- Loose connection, contact resistance or oxidation in the connector
- Open circuit or short circuit to earth or supply voltage in the wiring to the bypass valve
- The bypass valve sticks or has jammed
- Damaged bypass valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Go through the connector to the bypass valve on the charge air cooler. It should be secure and clean.
- 3Look for broken or chafed wires to the bypass valve, since they may have shorted to earth or supply voltage.
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, you can activate the bypass valve and see whether it moves.
- 5Have a workshop check that the bypass valve is not sticking, and replace it if it is damaged.
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
