What does this fault code mean?

The turbo control valve positions the guide vanes in the turbocharger, and a position sensor detects their position. The engine control module (ECM) compares the learned limits for the closed and open positions and sets the code when the limit for the closed position is outside what is permitted. The code can be a knock-on fault from a fault in another turbo circuit, in which case the other code is worked on first. The cause can also be a damaged turbocharger.

    Possible causes

    • Knock-on fault from a fault detected by another trouble code test for the turbo and/or turbo control
    • Troubleshoot according to another trouble code
    • Damaged turbocharger

    What you can do

    1. 1Deal with any other fault codes for the turbo or turbo control first, because this code may be a knock-on fault.
    2. 2Check that the connectors to the turbo control valve and the position sensor are secure and clean.
    3. 3If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the position sensor value in live data while the turbo control valve is operated, and check that it follows the valve's movement.
    4. 4If the fault remains once the other faults are dealt with, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the turbocharger.

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Poor performance, the car lacks power

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
