Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns EGR control, that is exhaust gas recirculation, and is set when the engine control module has registered a fault in the EGR valve or its wiring that causes incorrect EGR control. The causes include poor contact, a short or open circuit in the wiring, and a valve that sticks or is damaged.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, contact resistance or oxidation at the EGR valve connectors
- Short circuit to supply voltage in the wiring to the EGR valve
- Short circuit to earth in the wiring to the EGR valve
- Open circuit in the wiring to the EGR valve
- The EGR valve seizes or has jammed
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact.
- 2Go through the connectors at the EGR valve and make sure they are secure and clean.
- 3Look for breaks and chafed wires to the EGR valve, which may have touched earth or supply voltage.
- 4Check that the EGR valve is not stuck from soot or dirt.
- 5Have a workshop check the valve with diagnostic equipment. If it is damaged it needs replacing.
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
