What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the pressure in the inlet pipe with the EGR control active and inactive. The code is set when the pressure does not change enough between the two states. The cause can be an EGR valve stuck in the open position, a blocked exhaust system, or a damaged control to the EGR valve.
Possible causes
- The EGR valve has jammed in the open position
- Blocked exhaust system
- Damaged control to the EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors to the EGR valve are secure and not corroded.
- 2Have a workshop check that the exhaust system is not blocked.
- 3Look for soot and dirt in and around the EGR valve. A valve stuck in the open position can cause the fault.
- 4Have a workshop clean or replace the EGR valve if it is blocked or damaged, and check the control to it.
- 5Clear the code and drive the car to see whether it returns.
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- Uneven idle
