What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the engine cooling system and sets the code when the electric cooling fan is overheated. The causes are that the ECM's power stage overheats when the resistance towards the battery is too low, without a full short circuit, or that the electric cooling fan control module is damaged.
Possible causes
- The ECM's power stage overheats when the resistance towards the battery is too low, without a full short circuit
- Damaged electric cooling fan control module
What you can do
- 1Check the coolant level when the engine is cold.
- 2Check that the fuses for the electric cooling fan are intact. The locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 3Have a workshop check the electric cooling fan control module and the power circuit of the engine control module, as this needs measurements and a damaged module must be replaced.
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine overheats or runs hot
