What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the idle speed control and sets the code when the idle speed is lower than expected. The causes may be a clogged fuel filter or low fuel pressure.
Possible causes
- Clogged fuel filter
- Low fuel pressure
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Check when the fuel filter was last changed. A clogged filter can give low fuel pressure and low idle, and it should be changed on schedule if it is old.
- 3With the ignition on, listen for the fuel pump starting for a few seconds.
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the idle speed in live data with the engine warm, and check whether it drops lower than expected.
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the fuel pressure and check the fuel system.
Symptoms you may notice1
- Idle is too low or unstable, and it may be noticeable all the time or only now and then
