What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the idle speed control and sets the code when the idle speed is higher than expected. One of the causes is air leaking into the intake system.
Possible causes
- Air leak in the intake system
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Check the hoses and clamps in the intake system for cracks, loose connections and chafed areas.
- 3Listen for a hissing sound from the intake hoses when the engine is running at idle.
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the idle speed in live data with the engine warm, and check whether it is higher than expected.
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop look for leaks in the intake system.
Symptoms you may notice1
- Idle is too high or unstable, and it may be noticeable all the time or only now and then
