Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the variable intake system on bank 1 and sets the code when it detects a fault there. The fault concerns control of the intake system, and the cause may be a damaged vacuum valve, an open or shorted signal wire, or a damaged engine control module.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire, or the signal wire is shorted to ground
- The signal wire is shorted to voltage
- Damaged vacuum valve
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Check the connectors at the vacuum valve and at the engine control module for looseness, contact resistance and corrosion.
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal wires have no break and no contact with ground (the body) or voltage.
- 4Check that the vacuum hoses to the valve are sealed and not cracked.
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the vacuum valve and check that it responds.
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the vacuum valve and the engine control module.
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
