What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the injection valve on cylinder 2. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal to the valve and its output stage as well as the injection quantity, and sets the code if something is wrong, for example if the quantity becomes too large.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or corrosion in the connectors and connections
- Loose connector
- Open circuit in the signal wire, or in the positive or negative wire
- With fault code ECM-P120212: the signal wire is shorted to voltage, or the injection valve is damaged
- With fault code ECM-P120211: a short between the signal wires, or the signal wire is shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Cylinder 2 is the second cylinder counted from the right-hand side of the vehicle, with cylinder 1 furthest from the flywheel.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 3Check the connector to the cylinder 2 injection valve for looseness, contact resistance and corrosion.
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the wires to the cylinder 2 injection valve have no break and no contact with ground or voltage.
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the cylinder 2 injection valve and listen for it working.
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the cylinder 2 injection valve and its control.
Symptoms you may notice4
- The engine may be hard to start, or not start at all, and this may be noticeable all the time or only now and then
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
- The engine lacks power or performs poorly
What the fault can affect3
- Injection from cylinder 2 stops
- The engine speed is limited
- The car may go into limp home mode
