What does this fault code mean?
The fault concerns the control of the injection valve for cylinder 3, which the engine control module (ECM) drives through internal output stages. It may be caused by contact resistance and corrosion at the connector, or by the valve being clogged or leaking.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and corrosion in the injection valve connector
- The injection valve is clogged or leaking
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector to the cylinder 3 valve is firmly seated and free from damp.
- 2Cylinder 3 is the third cylinder counted from the right-hand side of the vehicle, with cylinder 1 furthest from the flywheel.
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the wire to the valve is not shorted to ground (the body).
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the cylinder 3 injection valve and listen for it working.
- 5Look at the connector and check whether the cable has been chafed.
- 6If nothing is found in these checks, the fault may lie in the engine control module, which is a job for a workshop.
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
