What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal to the injection valve for cylinder 5. The code is set when the signal to that valve is incorrect.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or corrosion in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- With fault code ECM-P120512: the signal wire is shorted to voltage, or the injection valve is damaged
- With fault code ECM-P120511: a short between the signal wires, or the signal wire is shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Cylinder 5 is the fifth cylinder counted from the right-hand side of the vehicle, with cylinder 1 furthest from the flywheel.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 3Check the connector to the cylinder 5 injection valve for contact resistance and corrosion.
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the cylinder 5 valve has no break and no contact with ground or voltage.
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the cylinder 5 injection valve and its control.
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine may be hard to start, or not start at all, and this may be noticeable all the time or only now and then
What the fault can affect1
- Injection from cylinder 5 stops
