What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when the engine control module (ECM) finds a fault in the control of the injection valve for cylinder 5. The causes may be poor contact at the valve, or the valve being clogged or leaking.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and corrosion in the injection valve connector
- The injection valve is clogged or leaking
What you can do
- 1Cylinder 5 is the fifth cylinder counted from the right-hand side of the vehicle, with cylinder 1 furthest from the flywheel.
- 2Check the connector to the cylinder 5 injection valve for contact resistance and corrosion.
- 3With the ignition off, disconnect the connector and check that it is dry and clean.
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no break and is not shorted to ground.
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the cylinder 5 injection valve and check whether it responds.
- 6If nothing is found in these checks, the fault may lie in the engine control module, so have a workshop check it.
