What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) continuously receives information about the brake pedal position from the brake control module (BCM) over the CAN network. The code is set when the ECM receives no message from the BCM at all. It may be caused by a communication wire that is broken or shorted, or by connectors in the communication path.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication wire
- The communication wire is shorted to ground or voltage
- Contact resistance or corrosion in the connections
- Open circuit or short in the connections
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Check the connections at the engine control module and the brake control module for looseness, contact resistance and corrosion.
- 3Check that the communication wires between the engine control module and the brake control module are not chafed or pinched.
- 4If several control modules show communication faults at once, have a workshop check the CAN network.
- 5Do not work on the braking system yourself. If the fault remains, have a workshop check the brake control module.

- The cruise control does not work at all
- The cruise control cannot be engaged
