What does this fault code mean?
Signals from the two position sensors in the throttle body are checked by the ECM, and the code is set when both sensors are faulty. The code never appears alone, but together with another fault code for the throttle position sensors, so troubleshooting is based on that code.
Possible causes
- The cause may be among other stored fault codes for the throttle position sensors in the engine control module
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module and start with the code for the throttle position sensor, since this code appears together with it.
- 2Check the connectors at the throttle body for looseness, contact resistance and corrosion.
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the throttle position sensor values in live data with the ignition on, and check that the value changes when the accelerator pedal is pressed.
- 4Clear the fault codes once the faults are corrected, and check that they do not return.
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the throttle body.
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine performs poorly
- The engine lacks power or performs poorly, for example when moving off from standstill
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly, and this may be noticeable all the time or only now and then
- The cruise control does not work at all or cannot be engaged
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- The power to the throttle motor is switched off, so the throttle goes to its spring-return position
- The cruise control is switched off for as long as the fault is active
