What does this fault code mean?
Signals from the two throttle position sensors are compared by the ECM, which sets the code when the difference between them is too large or the primary signal is wrong.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or corrosion in the connections
- Damaged throttle body
What you can do
- 1Check that the connector to the throttle body is not loose and is free from damp and oxidation.
- 2With the ignition off, disconnect the connector and check that the contact surfaces are clean and undamaged.
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the throttle position sensor value in live data with the ignition on, and check that it rises smoothly when the accelerator pedal is pressed.
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the throttle body.
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine performs poorly
- The engine lacks power or performs poorly, for example when starting
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly, and this may be noticeable all the time or only now and then
- The cruise control does not work at all or cannot be engaged
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- If one of the signals is faulty, the other is used
- The cruise control is switched off for as long as the fault is active
