ECM-P158500 - Throttle Control Malfunction. General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) calculates the engine torque in two ways from signals from the air mass meter, the throttle body and the intake pressure sensor, and compares the results. The code is set when the two calculations differ too much.
Possible causes
- Air leak in the intake pipe, after the air mass meter and the throttle body
- Damaged throttle body
- Damaged engine temperature sensor
- Damaged flywheel sensor
- Damaged intake pipe pressure sensor
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover.
- 2Check that the hoses in the intake system after the air mass meter and the throttle body are not cracked or loose, as a leak causes faults.
- 3Check the connectors to the throttle body and the pressure sensor for looseness, contact resistance and corrosion.
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the airflow and intake pipe pressure in live data during a test drive, and check that the values agree with each other.
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the throttle body and the sensors.
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque is limited, and the highest permitted level depends on the accelerator pedal position
