What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM), during an adaptation attempt, detects that the throttle movement is blocked or that the opening spring in the throttle body does not work correctly. Although the code is named as stuck in the closed position, the condition covers the movement and the opening spring.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by oil film or dust
- Contact resistance or corrosion at the throttle body connector to the ECM
- Open circuit or short to ground or voltage in the wires to the throttle motor
- The wires to the throttle motor are shorted to each other
- Damaged throttle body
What you can do
- 1Check that nothing is blocking the throttle and that it can move freely.
- 2If the throttle sticks, have a workshop clean or replace the throttle body.
- 3With the ignition off, check the connector at the throttle body for looseness, contact resistance and corrosion.
- 4With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the wires to the throttle motor are not shorted to each other.
- 5If the code returns, it points to a damaged throttle body, which a workshop can replace.
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine lacks power or performs poorly
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- Depending on the nature of the fault, the power to the throttle motor may be switched off, so the throttle goes to its spring-return position
