What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls the throttle and checks that the measured position follows the control. The code is set when the measured throttle position value does not change even though control is applied. This may be caused by the throttle sticking, an incorrect adaptation, or a damaged throttle body or engine control module.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by oil film, dust or ice
- Incorrectly adapted throttle body
- Damaged throttle body
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1With the ignition on, read the throttle position in live data and check that the value changes when the accelerator pedal is pressed.
- 2With the ignition off, press the throttle plate gently and check that it does not stick or is not blocked by anything.
- 3Have a workshop clean the throttle body if needed.
- 4Have a workshop redo the throttle adaptation (calibration), since it may be incorrect.
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the throttle body and the engine control module.
Symptoms you may notice4
- A text message is shown in the display
- The engine performs poorly
- The idle speed is high
- The cruise control does not work at all
What the fault can affect2
- The power to the throttle body is switched off, so the throttle plate goes to its spring-return position
- The cruise control is switched off for as long as the fault is active
