What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) has detected an internal fault in its communication with the transmission control module (TCM) over the CAN bus. Although the code describes a mechanical fault where a commanded position cannot be reached, the condition concerns the control module's own communication. The fault appears to the driver as a warning in the display.

What you can do

1Read off the fault codes in the engine control module. If any other code points to the fuel system, troubleshoot that one first
2Clear the fault code, switch the ignition on and wait a while so the control module can run its test
3Check that the fault code is no longer active after the test. If it is gone, the fault may have been temporary
4Drive the car and read off the fault codes again afterwards
5If the fault code returns: have a workshop replace the engine control module (ECM)
