What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has detected an internal fault in its EEPROM memory, the memory where the control module stores data that must be kept when the ignition is switched off. Although the code is listed as a general signal fault, it concerns the memory function in the control module rather than an outside signal.
Possible causes
- Communication interference
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes and note which are present
- 2Switch the ignition on, wait a while and read off the status of the fault code again
- 3Check that the fault code is no longer active when the test has finished
- 4Check that the connectors to the engine control module are firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 5If other fault codes are stored in the engine control module, troubleshoot those first. If the fault code returns: have a workshop replace the engine control module (ECM)
