What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has detected an internal fault in its data memory, the EEPROM function where the control module stores information. Electrical and magnetic interference from nearby parts may also be behind the fault.
Possible causes
- Communication interference
- Electrical and magnetic interference (EMC) from nearby components in the engine bay or from the surroundings, for example radar equipment
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes and note which are present
- 2Switch the ignition on, wait a while and read off the status of the fault code again
- 3Check that the fault code is no longer active when the test has finished
- 4If other fault codes are stored in the engine control module, troubleshoot those first
- 5If the fault code returns: have a workshop replace the engine control module (ECM)
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine stalls, sometimes or all the time
- The engine does not start, sometimes or all the time
